Amazon launches cargo service

Amazon India launched Amazon Air Monday in India to expand its transport network and speed up delivery to customers.

Telangana industries minister K.T. Rama Rao inaugurated the service at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

According to a press release, Amazon was the first Indian e-commerce company to establish an air cargo network.

Amazon India’s Akhil Saxena stated that two planes are currently being operated. Each plane can transport 20,000 packages, he said.

“We have partnered with a third-party carrier… Quikjet is the company through whom we have leased the plane. He said that they are operating and maintaining the plane for us.

The release stated that Quikjet would use this aircraft to transport Amazon customer orders to cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi.

“Amazon Air arrives in India at a crucial time. We have made many positive steps over the years to improve our transport and logistics infrastructure in India. Saxena stated that Amazon Air’s investment will improve India’s delivery experience.

He said, “Moreover, the launch support more than 1.1 million sellers India, enabling growth in ancillary businesses like transportation and aviation.”

Amazon Air was founded in 2016 in the US. It operates an air cargo network that includes more than 110 aircraft, more than 70 destinations around the world, according to the release.

Rama Rao confirmed the support of the state government for Amazon.
