Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro to Feature Redesigned Camera UI with Separate Photo and Video Modes

August 21, 2023

Google is expected to release the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones in October this year. The new phones are rumored to come with a redesigned camera UI that separates the photo and video modes. The redesigned UI also features a new location for the camera switch button and the gallery preview button.

According to screenshots published by Android Authority, the new Google Camera UI for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro has a fresh new look with a clear separation between the photo and video modes. There is now a separate toggle placed under the mode selection bar to change between the two modes.

Google has also swapped the location of the camera switch button and the gallery preview button. The camera switch button is now on the right side of the screen, while the gallery preview button is on the left side.

The settings pop-up will now show up when the screen is swiped from the bottom up. The new settings icon in the bottom left can also be pressed to bring up the settings menu.

The Google camera app for the Pixel 8 series also features a new Motion tab that has been split into Long Exposure and Action Pan modes. These modes have separate tabs to improve their visibility. The Cinematic Pan mode has been renamed to Pan and is now a dedicated option in the video mode.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are said to be powered by the new Tensor G3 chip and run on Android 14. They are also rumored to have a 120Hz refresh rate display and a triple rear camera setup on the Pro model.
