If Man City stars ignore the wake-up call, Pep could walk

January 23, 2023

Pep Guardiola hinted that his reign as Manchester City manager might be ended if his players don’t respond to his call to end a slippage in standards.

Guardiola criticized his stars for not having the hunger or desire to reel Arsenal in at the top Premier League, despite being 2-0 down to beat Tottenham 4-2.

The Catalan coach is the one who has led the club to its most successful period in history, winning four league titles over the last five seasons.

Guardiola extended his Etihad contract to 2025 in November. However, Guardiola admitted that he has personally experienced the slacking off that comes along with being a successful player.

The former Barcelona midfielder said, “I won four La Ligas consecutively when I was a player of football.”

“In the fifth season, I wasn’t the same as in the sixth. I wasn’t starving enough. I thought, “How good am I?” Madrid won me the fifth place and sixth.

“I understand the challenge, but I’m here to help. That is what the chairman knows. Otherwise, I won’t sign.

“But if the team loses or something happens, I can’t be here.” People don’t wait.

Arsenal have a five point lead over Guardiola’s men, and they still have one game left.

City, however, could reduce the gap to the top to just two points by beating Wolves on Sunday. Arsenal will host Manchester United at Emirates.

Arsenal and City will still face off three times this season. The first is in the FA Cup fourth round on Thursday.
