RCB’s Hazlewood set to miss initial 7 matches of IPL 2023; expected to join on April 14 and attain fitness by the third week

March 31, 2023

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is set to miss the first seven games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to an Achilles heel problem. Hazlewood is expected to reach India by April 14 but will take an additional week to be match-fit. Meanwhile, his Australian teammate Glenn Maxwell is doubtful for RCB’s opening match against Mumbai Indians on April 2 in Bengaluru due to an incomplete recovery from a leg fracture.

Hazlewood expressed that his Achilles tendon issue is a slow process, but it thrives on some work. He is hoping to get ready for the Ashes via the IPL. Hazlewood stated that “you don’t need a lot of workload for T20. It’s more just ticking off those boxes of getting up to speed and pushing back in the run-up. I’m probably only going to need to do one or two sessions at full pace, and then I’m probably good to play.”

He also emphasized that T20 is a lot different from Test and even one-day cricket, and you only need 20 balls at full pace, which is pretty close to a game. Hazlewood is still awaiting a medical clearance from Cricket Australia before departing for India.

Hazlewood’s absence would be a significant setback for RCB in their initial IPL matches. However, his planned arrival by mid-April would mean that he might be available for selection for their remaining matches. The Australian paceman’s inclusion in the squad would undoubtedly improve RCB’s bowling department.

Hazlewood has played only three IPL matches to date, and his addition to the squad would undoubtedly add much-needed depth to the RCB pace attack. RCB has always been known for their batting prowess, but their bowling has often been a cause for concern. Hazlewood’s presence would go a long way in resolving the issue, and his experience could also help mentor some of the younger players in the team.

In conclusion, Hazlewood’s expected arrival by mid-April would be a much-needed boost for RCB’s IPL campaign. His presence in the side would undoubtedly improve their bowling attack, and his experience would be invaluable for the team. Hazlewood’s fitness and availability for the upcoming matches are crucial, and RCB would be hoping for his swift recovery.
