Sunny Leone Opens Up About Mother’s Alcoholism, Reflects on Her Adult Entertainment Career as a ‘Trigger’

July 24, 2023

Sunny Leone, originally Karenjit Kaur Vohra, shared her journey from a conservative Indian Sikh family in Canada to becoming an adult entertainer, a decision that didn’t sit well with her mother. Unfortunately, her mother’s struggles with alcoholism escalated, leading to her passing away in 2008, even before Sunny joined the Indian reality show Bigg Boss season five.

While Sunny acknowledged that her career choice might have played a role in triggering her mother’s alcoholism, she clarified that her mother had been battling with the addiction long before that. In an appearance on mid-day’s Sit With Hitlist series, Sunny emotionally revealed that her mother’s alcoholism was a psychological issue that had nothing to do with the family, including her, her brother, or her father.

Although Sunny accepted being a “trigger,” she highlighted that her mother’s addiction was already a prevalent issue, and her entry into adult films amplified the situation. The emotional toll of witnessing her mother’s struggle was a painful experience for Sunny, who wished for her mother’s love to surpass her addiction.

Sunny Leone came to India as a contestant on Bigg Boss season five, which eventually led to her being offered a role in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Jism 2. Her acting career then took off, with roles in various films like Ragini MMS 2, Ek Paheli Leela, Mastizaade, and Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Now married to Daniel Weber and a mother of three, Sunny cherishes her family life with twin boys Noah and Asher, along with her adopted daughter Nisha, whom she welcomed into her family in 2017.
